These are for my Advanced Computer Illustration class - the assignment was to do anything related to the Wizard of Oz. They were all really quick and fun to draw, and should be colored soon!

I'm about two hours into this painting. So far, I think it's coming along pretty well, I'm still working out the dust clouds and debris falling away from the monster on a separate layer, hopefully that won't cause too much trouble.

I spent most of this hour working with the background - making the mountains recede, and adding detail to the trees and waterfalls back there. I also started defining the figure on the middle elephant, and I added a temple in the background! I still have to play with the elephant in front, I feel like the gesture is a little weird, and the head needs to change, and I should probably set the values apart to make it more of a framing device than a focal point.

Here's a piece I'm working on for my thesis. I'm one hour into the painting, still just blocking in colors and working on composition. I'll keep posting this painting as I work on it to give a look at my process. Up to this point, I started with a thumbnail, scanned it, and began painting over it.

Here it is, my album cover for Magical Mystery Tour, sans text. I wanted to keep the colors as vibrant as possible without looking horrible. I also learned a lot about using textures and fast additive and subtractive painting, a technique I plan on utilizing when I redesign my website. I'm also pretty happy with the caricatures, I think they're pretty accurate- and they were almost all completely out of my head! The dark border is not part of the cover.

Magical Mystery Tour

I'm taking a shot at designing a new cover for the Beatles' album Magical Mystery Tour, which has some amazing songs on it, but I can't say I like the original album cover. This is the first of four caricatures of the Beatles, I just finished this one, and I shall post the others as they are completed. Back to work!
